Effects of premarital sex and early sexual relationships on teeenagers Essay

The present day unipolar system has left USA as the only super power capable of conducting or organizing political military action anywhere in the world.. However, hegemony is present in a system where there is a unipolar structure of influence to match the unipolar structure capabilities for example in the 1990s the United Nations was gradually displaced from its primary responsibility for maintaining peace and security in favour of a revitalized NATO which provided the multilateral cover for US military action in the Balkans. In the war aganst Iraq, the process was taken a step further as NATO was itself sidelined in favour of a coalition of the willing(Bull,2000;23). Politically, because all states recognize that it is in their overriding self-interest to maximize their power, that’s what Waltz says they do. To do anything else is crazy because a state without enough power is a vulnerable state. And, anyway, it is too scary for states not to try to maximize their power. For instance as China continues to expand its military spending $91.  5 billion in 2011,this only represents about one seventh of the total US defense budget(estimated to reach $663. 8 bilion by the end of the year)according to China: USA FOCUS a non profit organization based in Hong-Kong. Hence this is what Waltz calls the â€Å"security dilemma( waltz,1979:123). † He argues that when one state sees another state trying to increase its power to increase its security, it gets scared, feelsthreatened, and recognizes that it too must increase its power. But, of course, thatscares the other states, and basically there is this mad spiral in which all states are T rying to have more power than all other states. According to Waltz, this competition for power among states is not always as dangerous as it at first sounds. In the international system, every state is sovereign and this implies that sovereign states are not answerable to any higher power. When one sovereign state intervenes in another sovereign state monitoring the domestic affairs of that certain country, it shows the aspect of political hegemony. One good example is that of America which has been intervening in various sovereign states under the disguise of protecting human rights. In doing so it seems like America is becoming a police man of the world. A realist scholar Hobbes (1952) postulates that the powerful will always do what they want and the weak will always comply. In other respects politics and economy are said to have existed in two separate spheres and are not logically connected to one another. In the option of the Marxist and leftists writers on one hand politics and economics are intimately linked. The insatiable desire of capitalists for continuous accumulation has been the force behind the political endeavors in every capital economy state. According to the theory of hegemonic stability, as I am using it in this article, the creation and maintenance of an open and liberal world economy such as the one that has characterized most of the world economy since the end of World War II requires a powerful leader. This leader uses its power and influence to promote trade liberalisation and a stable international monetary system primarily in order to advance its own political and economic interests. The leader, however, can seldom coerce reluctant states to obey the rules of a liberal international economic order and must seek their co-operation. These other states co-operate with the hegemony because it is in their own economic and security interests to do so. For example, although the American hegemony played a crucial role in establishing and managing the world economy following World War 2, it did so with the strong co-operation of its Cold War. Coercion involves the study of threats and demands that encourage the adversary to either reverse its action or stop what it has been doing. Unlike Deterrence, which stresses the prevention of an attack or the use of threats by state A to dissuade its enemy, state B, from attacking, coercion consists of the use of threats by state A, or the coercer (e. g. state hegemony, NATO, UN), to reverse a n act of aggression by state B. To coerce a state, then, means to employ a range of diplomatic and military options. These may include economic/trade sanctions, blockades, embargoes, and precision air-strikes. The threat of exercising these options serves as either an inducement to the transgressor state to stop what it is doing, or as punishment for not taking the steps to comply with the coercer’s demands. Such options, therefore, reflect the costs and benefits of calculated threats, and are often referred to as ex ante demands. The ex ante mix of punishment and inducements, in this case, can either take the form of a carrot/stick or use for that approach.

American Apparel Case Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

American Apparel Case - Assignment Example He further used ex-employees of the company to advertise the products. The employee filed a case on this allegation.DovCharney could have used willing employees subject to their consent on advertising the products. He could also put in mind psychological aspects of the audience and the customers and used a polite way of advertising instead of using naked girls (Gereffi 143-169). This would have put a positive public figure of the company. On the part of company management strategies, Charney lacked seasonal executives and personal assistance to help him in compiling checks that always piled in his office. He could have used a team of trusted person to help him in compiling these checks and notes. The reason this is a good strategy he could have used is because this could spare some time, which he could use to solve other problems facing the company. Since the case was written alleging him on sexual harassment and fall of financial status of the company, there have a lot of events happening. First was his dismissal as the CEO of American Apparel in March this year (Littler, 240-243) . This triggered him on wanting to get his position back to control on the company. Group report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Group report - Essay Example I agree with their opinion and also agree with their argument that personal learning reflection is especially helpful for students who want to be future entrepreneur. I cannot deny the fact that, entrepreneurship was probably one of the most challenging and exciting study topic for management student hence there is no surprise why I want to taste my luck in entrepreneurship if I will get opportunity to do so in future course of time. However, in this essay, I will not confine the discussion in the boundary of entrepreneurship rather I will try to shed light on large set of learning and skill aspects. Politis (2005) and Harrison and Leitch (2005) pointed out that learning should be self-directed in order to help a person to grow in sustainable manner. I am not ashamed to admit that I had very little knowledge about fundamentals of business process prior joining the masters program in university but the master’s program in management has really improved my personal understanding about various core elements of management. I must admit that module 1 and module 2 of course were comprehensive enough to give me and my colleagues to improve our personal learning and self awareness about personal skill orientation. These modules were absolute necessity for students who want to know about how to organize an event, how to work in group, how to prepare group report and how to guide a team during contingent situation. There is no doubt in the fact that all the modules in the course proved to be learning opportunity for me and significantly helped me to grow as professional. Throughout this essay, these learning experiences will be critically reflected in order to substantiate my claims that I have learnt a lot from my management degree program. I will take help of the learning cycle theories in order to present my personal learning experiences and the learning cycle model

ART - Essay Example The flower vessel has got a lid or rather covering with the same decorations as those of the pot itself. This cube and the flower pot are placed on the extreme left of the picture. The second cube is placed on a large square of the same colour (light blue). Just like the first cube, this second cube is also placed on the brown wooden floor. Unlike the first cube, this cube is brightly illuminated of the three cubes and is at the central part of the photograph. On top of it are five dolls and a vase of flowers. The flowers are of various colours, ranging from pink to white. The first doll on the left hand side is bigger and taller than the others and looks like that of a middle-aged lady. She has white and pink flowers on her dark hair and she seems to be holding a bunch of flowers on her left hand .The second doll is small and is that of an old lady who appears to be sited down. She has got blue top with white sleeves and a pink dress. Next to this doll is another doll of an old man, maybe the same age with this lady and has got a grey fully grown beard. He is wearing a green top with khaki bright-brown trousers. He is also sited down. Next to these two dolls are two children whose sex is not very clear. The one next to the old man is dressed in purple top and bright-brown trousers as well. The next doll is dressed in pink top and brown trousers. These two appear to be in good moods and they appear like they are hugging and kissing. They are all sited except for the first one who is standing in what appears to be a green mat. At the background is a very clear reflection from the bright lighting and a shadow of this cube, the dolls and the flowers. Next to this is the last cube which is identical to the first one only that it is dimly illuminated and therefore its colour appears a little bit dull. On top is a flower

Scene Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Scene Analysis - Essay Example The Grandmaster was a commercial and critical success since it handled the story, the scenes and the characters very convincingly and took every one on a journey into the time period between 1930 to 1950, through the life story of Ip Man, the lead character of the film. It is indeed surprising that the director chose to open the story with a fight sequence in the rain that shows the histrionics of Ip Man the lead character and familiarizes the audience with his proficiency in the art. As a student of movie making would note, this opening fight sequence superceded all other fight sequences in the movie and the treatment of lights, camera and action were full of montages that are unique and historically significant in the history of Chinese cinema. The Grandmaster is not a very important cult film today which falls in the category of Chinese action movies that deal with Kung Fu masters, combats and is shouldered by the lead characters or fighters in the movie. However, the film has unique montages that have never been created in the history of Chinese cinema before. Take for example the opening fight sequence done in the night in a rainy street (NIX, 2013, 1). The fight is between Ip Man and a number of combatants and uses all possible camera angles to convincingly display his skills. There are moments in the sequence which show rain waters only, whether they are on the floor of the street where they are gathered to form a pool and are disturbed by the fight on goi ng on the same street; or whether they are flying off Ip Man’s rich white hat (Marsh, 2013, 1). These scenes were a different inclusion in an otherwise action movie. The fact that the camera, the light (especially the way it was made to reflect in the rain drops and the water splashing around), and the edits of the footage (Vineyard, 2008, 24) are very swift and shown to the audience in short timings between the fight scenes adds the extra element of

Definition of honor Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Definition of honor - Essay Example Concept Honor is a gesture or an attitude that others display for an individual for all the deeds and accomplishments that is earned or procured for the endeavor that is beyond the scope of a common man. It is an immense pride that any group of individuals or any nation exhibits towards the undertakings performed. Honor is an encouragement for others, an ethos and own confrontation clinched by any nation to recommend for all the actions that has made the result in its favor, may it be war where the bravery has turned the consequences in favor of the nation. May it be any sports accomplishment or any research that has brought glory to the nation in front of the entire world. A statement of belief or faith that a parents who worth the conception of reputation and examination would be lawfully conceited to comprise, a son or daughter entrust to (A Concept of Honor). Honor is also institutional that is regulated by the rules that one has to abide by. This Code of Honor should never be vi olated. The Code is equally applicable to all the laws and orders that any nation prescribes. Infringement of these laws is considered as a misconduct, such behavior brings defame or dishonor to any nation or an organization. These acts could be criminal or scandals that is against the set rules and regulations. Violations of laws are accountable to punishment, retributions or expulsions (A Concept of Honor). Thus, honor also encompasses an enormous pact of tasks. These responsibilities are being taught, guided and evaluated over the time as the providence of any organization or a country relies upon set guidelines. To receive and act dependably as well as sensibly is a great deal of responsibility. These principled as well as forfeited actions bring nobility to the institution. To procure graciousness and dignity for any nation it becomes imperative for every individual to work conscientiously and meticulously within the frames and parameters of the nation's rules and regulations. It is obvious that if any individual does wrong then it directly affects that pride of the organization (A Concept of Honor). It could be understood that by means of cultural unfairness or discriminations or by sustaining dual standards, conceit of the nation is influenced. It is imperative that for the sake of honor of any organization such strokes should be evaded. There could be a variety of condone to keep the spirits of the employees at a high pace and to let them enjoy the freedom of work. This not only promotes confidence and support in favor of the nation or the organization but also brings rewards and honor for the institution (A Concept of Honor). Rewards and honor could not be forced but they are self- generated by means of actions and the feeling of belongingness that an individual possess for the nation. Unless, this feeling of belongingness is generated from within, honor of any form can never be procured. This feeling is essential for the safety of nation and to eradi cate terrorism from its roots. It is observed that in some of the developing as well as developed nations women are highly ill-treated and there is little wages for their hardships. This could not bring any honor to the nation. It is therefore essential that both men and women work in co-ordination and respect for each other to bring pride, appreciation, magnificence and glory to the nation (Honor). Conclusion In social perspectives it is

Literature review one and two Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

One and two - Literature review Example The study focuses on the issues of child abuse on three main age groups that it, parents of children below 11 years, teenagers between 11 – 17 years and a group between 18- 24 years. The sample on these three groups included 2,160, 2,275, and 1,761 subjects respectively (Radford et al. 2011, p. 218). However, the study does not give details on the sampling techniques, which were used at arriving in the stated representative sample. However, the fact that all ages were represented indicates that the findings were objective and credible. This study was an improvement of previous studies, which lacked in terms of objective representative samples. In their definition, child maltreatment is concerned with physical, emotional, and psychological ill-treatment. It also referred exploitation of children by certain members of the society including their parents, close friends, and strangers. Physical maltreatment included hitting, kicking, spanking and slapping of their children. Issues of neglect were also said to cause emotional problems to children. Neglect included denying children parental love, access to quality education and healthcare, and failure to provide them with general basic needs (Children’s Taskforce, Department of Health 2012, p. 865). The study findings indicated that 1.2% of the children less than 11 years were severely punished. However, it appeared that severe punishment increased as the ages increased. For instance, in the 7.1% of the group between the ages brackets 11-19 had been severely punished (Radford et al. 2011, p.300). This increased to 11.5% in 17-24 age brackets. In addition to that, it was indicated that over 0.5% of the children under the age of 11 had been sexually abused. This would however rise to 4.8% in the age bracket 11-19. In the final bracket of 18 – 24, 11.3% of the subjects had been exposed

Case Study of a Legal Senario Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Case Study of a Legal Senario - Essay Example 211). The external appearance of the contents of the contract is given premium here because social and economic dictates require the protection of the plain wordings of contracts. The contractual agreement between the two parties created rights and obligations which are enforceable by the courts (von Bar, Drobnig, and Alpa, 2004, p. 66). In this case, the contractual relations between Buildrite and Bistrot created the rights and obligations for both parties – for Buildrite to build the extension by November 15 and for Bistrot to pay the price agreed upon. The fact that the wages of the workers were only at minimum wage and the labourers left the employ of Buildrite does not play into the contract between Bistrot and Buildrite. The issue of employment between Buildrite and its employees is not included in the terms of the contract between Bistrot and Buildrite. It is the obligation of Buildrite to fill in its employee vacancies without having to charge Bistrot for the cost of t he additional employees. The two parties did not include in the terms of their contract the fact that Bistrot would have to pay additional cost should Buildrite’s workers leave the firm and leave the latter shorthanded. The elements of a contract are: agreement, consideration, intention to create legal relations, capacity, consent, and form. The contracting parties agree on and accept the terms of the agreement (Mead & Sagar, 2005, p. 38). Beyond such terms and agreement, the contract cannot apply and a possible breach of contract would be seen if either party does not fulfil his end of the contract. In the above case, the parties agreed on the terms of the contract and nowhere in the contract does it indicate that Bistrot will cover additional cost for the renovation. The consideration is usually monetary and the amount has

Popular Culture Essay Essay Example for Free

Popular Culture Essay Essay Although there are some parts of popular culture that make it into high culture, popular culture is transient; it describes the way of life, attitudes, and passions of mostly younger people. These views usually change as they age and gain real life experience. This essay will cover culture, popular culture, three major trends in popular American culture and how popular American culture affects personal decision making. Culture is the united design of social understanding, faith, and conduct that hinges on the ability to search for knowledge and spread it to future generations. It is also the ordinary principles, collective customs, and measurable qualities of ethnic, religious, or a community. (Oxford English Dictionary, 2012) â€Å"The soul takes nothing with her to the next world but her education and her culture.† (Plato, 2012) Popular cultural is the understanding and actions of a particular set of people in a particular era. It is also television shows (like Reality TV) or marketable goods (like sagging pants, oversized shirts, hats designed to be worn backward, etc.) made for, or targeted at particular set of people. (Oxford English Dictionary, 2012) In this student’s opinion popular culture comes and goes and only defines an era not its people. Three major trends in today’s society are a digital society, sexual explicitness, and a general lack of personal responsibility. Americans live in a digital society that relies on technology more than personal relationships. We do a great deal of shopping and purchasing online and have become a society where the sexier it is the better. Almost everything on television, in magazines, and even our music have become permeated with sexual overtones and innuendos. Finally, we have a dilemma with the lack of personal responsibility in our country; recently there have been several lawsuits against fast food restaurants for making people fat. Americans need to accept responsibility for our own actions; it was not the fast food restaurants that made us fat, rather it was our decision to eat there that did. Popular American culture affects personal decision making various ways, whether it is the type of food we buy, the music we listen to, electronics we purchase, and even the people we date. In this student’s opinion the Internet is the single most influential popular culture influencer of our time. We use it for everything from dating, shopping, exploring, studying, traveling, relaxing, and so much more. Popular culture  affects us in almost every decision we make. Although there are some parts of popular culture that makes it into high culture, popular culture is transient. This essay covered culture, popular culture, three major trends in popular American culture and how popular American culture affects personal decision making. â€Å"Culture is made of everything that enables man to maintain, enhance or transform without weakening it, the ideal image of himself that it has inherited.† (Malraux, 2001) References Malraux, A. Comparison of Male and Female Hormones

Comparison of Male and Female Hormones Gonadal sex hormones also known as steroids, hormones or androgen and estrogen receptor interaction vertebrate steroids. The consequences are mediated by nuclear receptor mechanisms and slow the genome associated membrane receptors and signaling cascades through rapid non-genomic mechanisms. The term sex hormone nearly always is synonymous with sex steroids. Produce Natural sex steroid hormones (testis or ovary, performance), liver or adrenal glands, fat, or other organizations in the conversion of other hormones. Synthesis of sex steroid hormones There are also many synthetic sex steroids. Androgen often referred to as anabolic steroids. Estrogen and progestin contraceptive use synthetic hormones. Ethinyl estradiol is a semi-synthetic estrogen. Specific compounds, partial agonist activity of steroid receptors, so act like a natural steroid hormone, cell type, medical conditions, need for steroid treatment are in use, but if the whole body systemic effects of specific steroids are the only a desirable within certain limits.Species In many cases, two kinds of male steroid hormones and estrogen, testosterone, estradiol, this is the most important human derivatives, respectively. Other that sex hormones, androgen and estrogen, because in addition to the third category include progestagen. Natural progesterone is the most important is people progestagen. In general, the male hormones male hormone of consideration, because they have a masculine influence, while estrogen and progestagens female hormone, despite the different levels of different sex, but consider. Sex hormones, including: Male hormones: anabolic steroid androstenedione dehydroepiandrosterone dihydrotestosterone testosterone Estrogen: estradiol estriol estrone Progestagens: progesterone striker progesterone Androgen Also known as the male androgen hormones or testoids, any natural or synthetic compounds is a common term, usually steroid hormone, to stimulate the male hormone receptor or a combination of the development and maintenance of male characteristics in the control of the spine. Supporting male sex organs and male secondary sexual characteristics, including development activities. Androgen was first discovered in 1936. Reduction of male hormone precursors of anabolic steroids and all estrogens, the female sex hormone. First of all, the most famous is the male hormone testosterone. Androgen ablation as an effective treatment for prostate cancer may be used. Species A subset of the male hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, 19 carbon adrenal cortex, adrenal cortex adrenal (gland closed mesh band inner district) include a synthetic steroid, steroids, steroids or earlier, the weak feature, androstenedione dehydrogenation DHEA (DHEA), the dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAs S), and are also included. In addition, testosterone, male hormones, including: (DHEA) Dehydroepiandrosterone: a steroid hormone production of cholesterol in the adrenal cortex. The main precursor of natural estrogens. Also known as dehydroepiandrosterone or dehydroandrosterone. (Andros) Androstenedione: A testicular androgens, adrenal steroids produced by the ovaries. The testosterone and other hormones androstenediones digestion conversion, which is the basic structure of estrone. As an athlete or fitness supplement androstenedione use has been banned in the International Olympic Committee and other sports organizations. Androstenediol: gonadotropin secretion by steroid metabolites are considered as the main regulatory body. DHEA: A chemical classification of androgen or progesterone during the creation of derivative products, but a minor seventh strength also affected masculinising testosterone. Plasma and urine of men and women, found that approximately the same number. (DHT) in the DHT: testosterone metabolites, and a more powerful male hormone testosterone, because it more closely than the androgen receptor. It is the manufacture of the adrenal cortex. Androgen Male development The formation of testis In mammalian development, ovarian or testicular gonad to become either the first time. In humans, about 4 weeks when the embryo is beginning gonadal mesoderm in the middle of the current adjacent to the development of kidney. About 6 weeks, the testis epithelium, gender lines, including developing countries and germ cells as they migrate to the gonads. In males, certain Y chromosome genes, including early bipotential gonad to testis, especially in the SRY gene conversion, male phenotype development control. The full development of the gonadal sex of the man climbing wires. Androgen production The development of Sertoli cells, epithelial cells derived from the mesoderm cells to form sperm sex string, which will be support acts. Small population of non-epithelial cells occurs during embryonic development of human renal tubular 8 weeks. This is the Leydig cells. Soon after, they separated Leydig cells begin to produce male hormones. Androgen As a paracrine Sertoli cells of androgen hormones are necessary to support sperm production. They also constitute the development of the penis and scrotum with men (to the male fetus). Under the influence of androgens, mesonephron remnants, Wolf tube, epididymis, vas deferens and seminal vesicle development. The action of androgen is a hormone from Sertoli cells (Mullerian inhibiting hormone) MIH, the fallopian tubes and other women in the male reproductive tract in the fetal Mà ¼llerian tissue to prevent the developing fetus. MIH and testicular androgen scrotum, so that normal movement cooperation. Spermatogenesis In adolescence, androgen, LH and FSH increase in production and hollow out the wires, so that seminiferous tubules and germ cells start to differentiate into sperm. In adulthood, testosterone and FSH collaborative features to support cell to support the production of sperm. Exogenous testosterone as a male contraceptive. Use of elevated androgen can suppress androgen production by the Leydig cells LH blocks the production of endogenous androgen levels. Since the local production of high levels of male testosterone hormone no Leydig cells, seminiferous tubule degeneration can lead to infertility. For this reason, many transdermal androgen patches applied to the scrotum. Inhibition of fat deposition More men than women are usually less adipose tissue. Some recent results show that the androgen signaling pathway potential of fat cells, fat cells by blocking the normal function of a one-stop support for lipids. In addition, androgen, not estrogen, ÃŽ ±, ÃŽ ² adrenergic receptors, and low growth adrenergic receptors, leading to increased levels of adrenaline / 2 ÃŽ ± receptor negative feedback, the lack of norepinephrine and adrenaline fat / norepinephrine acting on lipolysis induced by the lack of accumulation of ÃŽ ²-receptor. Muscle More women than men usually musculoskeletal. Androgens promote the growth of skeletal muscle cells, and even an integrated way to work in a variety of skeletal muscle cells work. To convey a type of muscle cell signaling leading to hormone is myoblasts. High levels of male hormones increase the expression of androgen receptor lead. Myoblast myotube fusion is a process, is the level of androgen receptor, is generated. Brain Circulating androgen levels affect human behavior because some neurons may be sensitive to steroids. Androgen levels of people involved and the regulation of aggression. In fact, in many species composition change in brain testosterone in rats and mice have the ability, and primates, including the construction of gender. However, those who determine the potential of androgen or estrogen into changes in neural anatomy dry a bit difficult, several reports have stressed that it can change the brain structure of male hormones, so that (U.S. female hormone, estrogen or other estrogen) a group of steroid compounds, the estrus cycle in the importance of the name, and as the main female hormones, their names / (breeding period of female mammals oistros projects) + general / = gonos produce. Estrogen oral contraceptives as part of a number of estrogen replacement therapy on postmenopausal women, women in the anti-hormone replacement therapy. Like all steroid hormones, estrogen easily diffuse throughout the cell membrane. Once inside the cell, and give them a combination of regulation of estrogen receptor expression in the activation of many genes. In addition, estrogen has been shown an activation of G protein-coupled receptor GPR30. Kind Steroid Three women in the natural estrogen estrone (E1) to estradiol (E2), and (estriol E3),. Estradiol (E2) a large non-pregnant women produce estrogen in menopause, pregnancy, and estriol is the major estrogen. Institutions, through the action of these enzymes in the production of male hormones is. From menarche to menopause, estrogen is mainly 17ÃŽ ²-estradiol. Postmenopausal women estrogen estradiol exist. estradiol testosterone and androstenedione to estrogen by aromatase. estrogen is weaker than estradiol. Premarin, an estrogen commonly prescribed drugs, steroidal estrogens equilin, also equilenin, including sulfate, but because of their health risks, more genetic progynova (estradiol valerate) Estrogen hormone requirements require more frequent. Non-steroidal A series of synthetic and natural materials have been identified with estrogenic activity. synthetic substances, such as xenoestrogens are known. known as the estrogenic activity of phytoestrogens of plant products. mycoestrogens those of known fungi. Estrogen produced by different mammals, these substances are not necessarily steroids. Biosynthesis Steroid hormones, showing the pink triangle in the lower right corner to estrogen. Primary follicles in the ovaries of estrogen, luteal Fund and produced by placental growth. Luteinizing hormone (LH) to stimulate ovarian production of estrogen. Example: 15% high performers 20% high-average performers 30% average performers 20% low-average performers 15% low performers Goals achieved The process starts when HR throws performance appraisal forms to different departments. This appraisal form has two sides: Employee Development Report-1 (EDR1) Employee Development Report-2 (EDR2) EDR-1 In EDR1 employee he identifies the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), the employees themselves set the objectives and targets for the following year. EDR-2 In EDR2 it is the line manager who rates the employee performance by quoting significant performance achievements and deficiencies for the past year. He indicates what development and training will employee need in the future according to the highlighted areas in the current year. When both of them end up the negotiation then the appraisal form is sent to HR department for further follow up of the respective training or development arrangements. This way the Performance appraisal system reaches to end. Maersk Line believes that career development is one of the most important steps in maintaining organizational performance. Maersk Line always helps its employees to build their career and achieve their personal goals by giving their best. And contribution which is made by the company is: Job enlargement Job enlargement is a job design technique wherein there is an increase in the number of tasks associated with a certain job. In other words, it means increasing the scope of ones duties and responsibilities. The increase in scope is quantitative in nature and not qualitative and at the same level. Task related training is not required much since the person is already aware of the same or doing it for some time. Benefits of Job Enlargement The following are the major benefits of Job enlargement Increased Work Flexibility: There is an addition to the number of tasks an individual performs. There is thus an increased scope of carrying out tasks that are versatile and yet very similar in certain aspects. No Skills Training Required: Since the individual has already been performing the task in the past, there is no great requirement for imparting of new skills. However people and time management interventions may be required. The job thus gets more motivational for the one performing it. Job Rotation Job Rotation is a management approach where employees are shifted between two or more assignments or jobs at regular intervals of time in order to expose them to all verticals of an organization. It is a pre-planned approach with an objective to test the employee skills and competencies in order to place him or her at the right place. In Maersk line we offer Job rotation which is a well-planned practice to reduce doing same type of job everyday and explore the hidden potential of an employee. The process serves the purpose of both the management and the employees. It helps management in discovering the talent of employees and determining what he or she is best at. On the other hand, it gives an individual a chance to explore his or her own interests and gain experience in different fields or operations. It is important to recognize when the employee is ready for promotion, because if an employee will not be promoted at the right time he might get demotivated. Maersk line recognizes such employees when there is availability of position and employees exhibition of competencies for performance in the new role. In case, when the employee leaves the organization when his/her promotion plan is ready, the HR gives someone else dual responsibilities for the time being. PROBLEM IDENTIFIED AND SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS i. Problem: There are number of potential drawbacks in different stages. One of the greatest concerns regarding relying too much on employee referrals could become the reason of limited diversity at workplace. Hiring from the same existing networks may bound a company to capture diverse pool of candidate, it is good for reducing cost expenditure but on the other hand it could become the big hurdle for the company if the company is relying on such method too heavily. This simple method could have many risks, e.g. when there is a need to fill particular Job the simple question is asked from the existing employees i.e. Is there anyone in your mind who can fill this Job? In response to this question employees may think of the potential benefits for their close ones in their network, rather than thinking constructively for the organization. It is not necessary that every time a new employee comes in through reference is beneficial for the company, it carries risks with it, it could take time to measure his/her effectiveness, and if the new employee is not prod uctive, eventually it will increase the cost of the company and employee will become the liability on the company. Solution: There is certain planning and strategies which can save the company from these problems Communicate the benefits to employees for the successful referrals; give them rewards, incentives and bonuses for the successful referral. This strategy can change the way employees think when they are asked to bring the best candidate for the particular job, now they will think of the best candidate in their mind, who will serve the company most efficiently and effectively. The reward amount should be sufficient enough to motivate the employees who make referrals but not too much that may lead them to make referrals of unqualified candidates. The bonuses should be given in installments because the effectiveness of the new employee cannot be measured in few days, it may take time. In order to be safe from a big loss company should make payments of bonuses in installments. The company may limit the number of bonus qualifying referrals that is made by each employee per year. This will reduce the number of employee referrals per year. The mandatory qualification and specifications should be clearly mentioned and delivered to the employees who make referrals. It will reduce the risk of getting unqualified employees. All the requests for employee referrals should be added to the pool of the candidates. ii. Problem: The advertisement for the Job which is offered by the company is very much important in order to gather a better pool of candidates. Maersk Line is highly dependent on the internet as medium of advertisement for the jobs. They dont prefer NEWSPAPER for the advertisement of their Jobs; as a result they are missing a large number of candidates who prefer Newspapers to find jobs. Solution: In order to get better employees a company must have a large pool of candidate so that it can be used for hiring employees when there is a need to fill the job in emergency. Newspaper plays an important role in spreading awareness among public. Since its an oldest and most popular medium of advertisements civilized and educated people read newspaper as a matter of habit in all over the world. Therefore it has a wide and general appeal. The message can reach a large number of audiences quickly. Choosing the best newspaper is also important, so the Maersk line can improve its pool of candidates by spreading word through Newspaper. iii. Problem: When we asked them; Has it ever happened that an employee might have left the Organization due to some reason; while the HR had plans for his promotion ready? Yes No They chose YES, And then we asked the next question; With Reference to the above scenario, what did the HR do? (If the above Question is answered as a NO, then suppose a scenario with the above details answer this question, what would the HR do?) Promote an immediate subordinate Bring in a Contingent Employee Give someone dual responsibilities for the time being Hire an individual from a pool of already collected CVs. They chose the third option which is Give someone dual responsibilities for the time being It may create a problem we identified, because in case of fulfillment of the job which has been left empty by the previous employee due to any reason, Maersk Line shifts the tasks to other employees. This creates a burden on them. Assigning dual responsibilities to an employee may become the reason of his/her demotivation. The workload given to someone more than his/her capacity may push them towards demotivation. As a result that employee may leave the Job which actually creates a problem for the company. Solution: It is normal that when employees get better options and more secured jobs they switch their jobs. If we see the answer of first question we asked, it shows that maersk line has issues with their employees regarding their promotions. The timing of the promoting employees is not accurate, that is why it leads employees to leave the job right before the promotion. The main problem is to put dual responsibilities on existing employee rather than promoting him/her to that post. The Maersk line lacks the succession planning; they prefer distributing the responsibilities instead of immediate fulfillment of the empty position. Because it is the best time to get benefit, by promoting the employees to fill the job and if the company doesnt find any potential candidate among the existing employees who can fill the post, then they should focus on the pool of the candidates. It ensures that the collected CVs are not useless iv. Problem: Maersk Line doesnt have any well defined strategy to retain their employees who are really important for the companys growth. It usually happens in Maersk Line that employees leave the organization due to some reason; while the HR had plans for their promotion ready. Recruitment is an expensive process, and when employees leave the jobs it is actually a loss in the cost incurred in the recruitment process. Solution: Hiring employees is an important stage but to keep them in your organization is also very important to be safe from the high employee turnover costs. In order to retain the employees, maersk line should create some tactics to retain their employees. These tactics may include: Offering competitive benefits: Give rewards and incentives Provide some small perks: Conduct stays interviews in addition to exit interviews Promote whenever poss

War And Peace :: essays research papers

The book â€Å"War and Peace† by Leo Tolstoy is a story about the lives of the Russian royal family from 1805 to 1815. This book describes things and events that happened during the war. The story begins at a cocktail party being held at the home of Anna Pavolvna in St. Petersburg. Most of the action, however takes place in Moscow, at the home of the Rostov family, and the battle front in the war with Napoleon. Their are the good people and the bad people. The good people being Natasha Rostov, a teenage girl who grows and matures throughout the book and Pierre Bezuhov, the son of Kirill Vladmirovitch Bezuhov, who speaks much of the novel expressing his purpose on earth. Prince Andrei Bolkonsky, the leader of the Bolkonsky family and a great war hero. The â€Å"bad† people are: the protagonists themselves, as they torment themselves and Napoleon Bonaparte, (who, by some, is believed to be an impostor) the emperor and military leader of France. Bent on world domination. Secondary characters are the families of Bolkonsky and Kuragin, Anna Pavolvna, a famous St. Petersburg socialite and Kutuzof, the military leader of the Russian forces. The basic conflict is the effects of the changes to the protagonists through the Napoleonic wars. One important event occurs when Prince Andrei is wounded during the battle of Austerlitz, and he is given a chance to recollect on his wartime experiences. Another important event occurs when Pierre is take prisoner by the French, (this is where he has the chance to look into his feelings and come to a peace with himself.) The climax of Pierre’s story occurs when he is held before a firing squad by the French. This is his climax because he is convinced that he is going to die, and after he is spared he becomes more caring and it is obvious that he will continue on this course until the end. The climax of Natasha’s life occurs when Andrei dies. It makes her reconsider the way she has lived her life, maturing her further from her state of mind as a seventeen year-old. The climax for Andrei occurs when he is mortally wounded while attempting to protect Moscow from Napoleon’s forces. This is his climax because his outlook on life becomes so negative and morbid that he can only wait to die.

Christianity and The Promotion of Slavery Essay examples -- Social Stu

One of the strongest roots of slavery and racism in the United States came from the Christian belief that blackness was linked with evil. This notion was used as moral justification to capture, enslave, punish, mutilate, and otherwise just inhumanely treat darker-skinned African people. Even before the colonies had been well established, It was widely accepted in Christianity that blackness and black skin were evil. One root cause behind the mating of blackness with evil was the bubonic plague in Europe in the 14th century. The bubonic plague was a deadly epidemic which killed between thirty and fifty percent of Europe's population (close to seventy-five million people). The bubonic plague, because it wiped out at least a third of Europe's population, had very deep and lasting impacts on the course of history. When infected victims were very close to death, their skin would blacken as a result of hemorrhages, or blood clots. At this point, there was no hope for the victim . Hence the bubonic plague came to be known as the black death. It is also important to note that these were the middle ages, and people in this period suffered through frequent outbreaks of famine, disease, war, and generally economic hard times. Society was also not very progressive, and people lived in constant fear of God. The churches played a very large role in that 'dark' society and in time, the bubonic plague left an i ndelible mark on Christianity: black was evil and signified hunger, suffering, disease, hard times, and death. The second major contributor to the notion that blackness was evil had to do with the constant strife between western European Christian nations and the people of the middle east, typically Muslim in faith: "One of the defini... ... free...and baptism doth not bestow freedom on him, nor make any alteration in his temporal condition...we are also of the opinion, the master may legally compel him to return to the plantation ". Later revised versions of this philosophy which led to the fugitive slave clause in the constitution of the United States left out part about baptism, but it is important to note that their origins mentioned baptism. This is a prime instance of religious beliefs working their way into the law books regarding slavery. Works Cited "Black Death." Middle-ages.org.uk. Web. 18 May 2012. . Hood, Robert E. The Language Of The Cell :: essays research papers

The Language of The Cell   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The cell is a complex and delicate system: It can be seen that the cell is the stage where everyday functions such as molecule movement, protein synthesis and tissue repair take place. All organelles within the cell are well rehearsed in their operations, but an error on an organelles behalf, can send the cell and it’s organelles into panic. The efficiency rate of the cell plummets down to a low level. It does take some time for the dust to settle, and once the scripts are memorized, the cell is now ready to begin it’s tasks again.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Since the 19th Century, it was known that all living things, whether they were plants or animals, were made up of cells. This whole idea has been given credit to an English Physicist, Robert Hook (1635-1703), when he looked at a thin slice of cork under powerful hand lens. Hook discovered a large number of cells. Rudolf Virchow (1821-1902) propounded this idea, that the cell is a basic structure and functional unit for all living organisms.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A cell can be a wide range of shapes and sizes, although most cells are microscopic. Inside a cell membrane, a nucleus can be seen. The nucleus is the control center of the cell. Between the nucleus and the membrane, there is a polysaccharide matrix called the cytoplasm, where organelles can be found. The organelles are attached to a framework. The cell’s cytoskeleton.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Every living cell has the ability to detect signals from it’s environment. The signals are usually in the form of chemical molecules, that the cell has learned to recognize. The cell decodes these molecules into messages, and acts upon them. The cell has a â€Å"language†. Signals and messages are carried by particles of matter that have a very low energy requirements. There are many, many signals rumbling around the cell. It was thought that the cell would confuse itself in all of that background signal noise. One defense is available to this question. The cell’s decoding mechanisms are located downstream from the receptors. They are based on complex chemical reactions that take place in the cell membrane and control all the responses of the cell to the messages it receives.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Neuropeptides and polypeptide hormones, are made up of complex assemblies of amino acids, aligned in different sequences. In other cases, the amino acids are slightly transformed, as this is the case with well known transmitter substances such as epinephrine (adrenaline), dopamine and histamine.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Products made in the organelles within the cell, are sent to various destinations, both in and out of the cell. The cell has what amounts to a

Ethical Dilemma with the End of Life Decisions Essay

In the advent of technology and biomedical advancements in the twentieth century, modern medicine is able to prolong the life of a patient. This dramatic improvement has raised appreciation as well as criticisms in and outside of the medical community. This is because of the important questions that come in about the end-of-life decisions. This is about who really is empowered to make the decisions regarding life, and which quality of life factors should really be considered with these end of life decisions. With technology, the medical world is come up with life support systems which literally â€Å"supports† life even those who are already dying. Because of this, ethical issues regarding when and who will decide on who pulls the plug came up. There are debates on who really has a say to stop the life from these patients. Some say the decision lies on the hands of the doctors, as they are the ones who can perceive whether or not a person still has a chance to survive. Some say the decision depends on the family members and loved ones of the patients, since it is up to them if they want to lessen the patient’s suffering. This goes in line with the concept of Euthanasia or â€Å"mercy killing† which aims to lessen the suffering of the dying patient. There are however several ethical questions which euthanasia has to answer, as it diverts from what the medical community stands for: to prolong and improve the quality of life of a patient. However, we still lack of the comprehensive bioethical rules and laws regarding these end of life decisions, that’s why doctors, as well as relatives and loved ones doesn’t know when it is the time to let go of the patient and literally â€Å"pull the plug†. If the patient however understands the situation he or she is in, he can aid the decision making process of ending his life by creating a will that appoints a relative or friend to carry out what he wishes.
